Another Year of Christmas

I can’t believe we just celebrated our second year of Christmas with Parker.  What was even more hard to believe when I went back through the December 2007 picture folder and saw how little are “little guy” really was. If you look close enough, you even see a little bit of drool on his chin (he’s going to love me for this when he gets older).

Last year he kind of opened gifts, but was more captivated by the wrapping paper.  This year he actually got in to opening the gifts.  But since Grandma Lilly and Gigi are such good gift wrappers, it made it a little difficult to open some of his gifts.  Don’t worry!  Grandma Gigi was there to lend a helping hand to get all those gifts unwrapped.  And yes, I did bold all because the grandparents represented this year.  From more building blocks, finger paints, and a new wagon, Little “P” had a great Christmas.

Look! I’m opening the gift all by myself.

My Name Is Jeff and Yes I’m a Twitterholic

Some of you may have heard me talking about Twitter and wondered what the heck it was.  A couple of monts ago, I was that person.  I noticed that a lof of other bloggers were signed up to it so like the rest of the sheep, I followed along.  For the first month, I really didn’t get it.  You type it a short message (you are limited to 140 characters) and let your followers keep track of you.  Who are your followers?  Anybody that wants to.  Kind of like an online stalking that you allow.  Freaky?  Kind of.

Benefits of Twitter?

Now that I’ve had a chance to understand Twitter, I absolutely love it.  It’s an easy way to keep people up to date on the little occurences.  Plus you can have directly linked to your Facebook profile (one entry instead of two-time managment at it’s best).  Also, I can keep track of what other bloggers are finding on the web and have direct dialogue with them as well (basically, using Instant Messaging).

And it get’s more exciting.  I just uploaded Twitter Berry to my phone last night.  Now I can easily check my updates anywhere I go.  My Blackberry just got cooler!

Join Me on Twitter

If you don’t believe me, give it try.  Twitter is free to setup and test drive.  Find me on Twitter and see what it’s all about.

P knows how to read…..sort of

img_3231Little “P’ has just turned 16 months and already he loves to read books.  Well, not necessarily.  He likes to bring books to daddy and sit on daddy’s lap while daddy reads and he points at the pictures as says, ‘Umhh”.  Nonetheless, it’s  special time between us both.  My personal favorite is “Five Little Monkees”.  I’m not sure if P has a favorite either, because any book with big pictures suits him just fine.

It’s hard to imagine the day when he’s sitting on my lap and reading to me.  But let’s not get aheld of ourselves.  Because I’m enjoying this just fine.

Entourage Is Over…..For Now

There’s nothing like getting all amped up for the series finale of your favorite show.  But then it’s straight into a bout of depression when it’s over.  I don’t have many shows that I have to see each week, but one that makes the list is HBO’s Entourage.  The premise of the show is amazing for any typical male.  Best friend makes it big it Hollywood and all the other friends ride the coat tails the whole way.  Who cares if you are Vinny Chase just as long as you are part of his entourage.

Vinny had been on a bad streak with his movie roles, but in the series finale, he lands the lead part in a Scorsese flick.  Now I have to wait until summer until we see where it picks up.  Summer?  Do you realize how long that is?  I’m officially depressed.  There are no other shows that move me as much as Entourage.  Wait?  Isn’t Lost due back in January?  Yes!  I’m back baby.  Can’t wait till Lost.

Many of you read my wife’s blog House of Rose.  If so, you will recall that I got her the UGG Cassic Cardy’s that she so wanted.  I’m glad I read her blog because I never wouldhave knew what to get her.  Well, when I started doing some on-line shopping to find them, I started to get worried.  Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Eastbay and others were all sold out!  Crap!  Now what?  Well, I called the wife’s friend Shan who lives up in Chi-Town and she led me to  I don’t know why I couldn’t find them, but that what good friends are for.

Sure enough, Zappos had them and it was free shipping to boot (No pun intended).  The best part was that I literally got them two days later.  That was earlier than the intial confirmation said.  Amazing!  If you need hard to find shoes in a hurry, check them out.

Straw Update

Previously I had shared my experience with McDonald’s and their inability to provide straws through the drive thru.  Well, since I’m still stuck on the west side of town and that being one of my only lunch options, I am still forced to have to go there.

The past two days with not bringing lunch and having to work a lot of my desk, I ran to the infamous McDonalds’s to grab a quickbite (Grilled Chicken Salads with fat free dressing and a large Diet Coke for all you health conscious folks out there).  Well, of course when you order the Diet Coke you’re supposed to get a what?  That’s correct.  A straw.  So how have they done lately?  Let’s See.

Upon receiving my order I always double check the bag.  I look in and what do I see?  Well, it’s what I didn’t see.  No straw!  No, I’m not joking.  I then look up at the McDonald’s employee and she responds with, “Did I give you a straw?”  “Nope”, I said.  She could tell something was up and I even had my sunglasses on. Poor girl didn’t know I was going to blog about it later.

Same thing.  Check the bag I what do I see….a straw!  Yes, they got it right!  I must have been grinning ear to ear.  What makes the story even more funny is when the gal handed me my drink she asked, “Did I give you a straw?” as she was handing me one with my drink.  I accepted it and drove off with the comfort of knowing I had two.  My hunch is that it will come in handy one day.

When Great Things Come Together

When you reflect back in time, one thing that can always be found is that great things always come in pairs.  One you can combine two individual things that yield a greater end result, it’s synergy in action.  My own personal life leaves a lasting trail of witnessing great things coming together.

Growing up and even today, I love the combo of peanut butter and jelly.  The creamy thickness of peanut butter combined with the slick sweetness of jelly is a long lasting treat that I’ll never get tired of. Spread across two pieces of lightly toasted bread makes my stomach whimper just blogging about it (Shortly after posting this I fixed my favorite treat).

And then of course you have the union of two opposite people that can combine together to form  “the match made in heaven.”  My wife and I are opposites in more ways than one (that will be a post for another day), but together are differences meshed together create an outcome that is unmeasurable.  I couldn’t have found a soul mate to compliment me more.

To not be out done, I stumled upon two opposites that there union has changed my life forever more.  (Disclaimer: this union does not outdo the union of my wife and I, but it’s a not too distant second).  These two items coming together has changed the way that I approach each day.  It has made me wiser, wittier, and ready to engage in conversation with a friend or even a complete stranger on a whim’s notice.  What you ask would be so great and so powerful to do such a thing?  Well, none other than the union between the Blackberry and ESPN.  Wow!  Just typing that makes my fingers tingle.  By now having the ESPN shortcut on my Blackberry, sports scores, roster updates, trade rumors are only a thumbs click away.  I don’t know if there is anyway of ranking great duos of all time, but these two make my top ten list.

Tantrum Defined

Merriam-Webster defines tantrum as:

: a fit of bad temper

Wikipedia defines tantrum as:

A tantrum is an emotional outburst of ill humor or a fit of bad temper wherein the higher brain functions are unable to stop the emotional expression of the lower (emotional and physical) brain functions. It can be categorized by an irrational fit of crying, screaming, defiance, and a resistance to every attempt at pacification in which even physical control is lost. The person may not stand or sit on their own. Even when the “goal” of the person is met, he or she is not calmed.

Wikipedia defines schizophrenia as:

a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a condition in which a single person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos or alters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment.

Anybody else have a kid that may suffer from these two conditions?

Month 1

By this point in time, we had become nearly pros of parenting.  We may bimg_1847e smiling in these pics, but that’s because we were walking zombies with no sleep.  Everybody elder parent will always give you the advice of “Sleep when he sleeps”.  While that’s good in theory, it never holds true.  When he sleeps you have the only chance to get done what you need to get done.  I try to imagine blogging in the first month and don’t know how we could have done it.  I imagine a lot of posts with many typos and much less flare.

In regards to pic above with my beautiful wife, it was one of the first pics we got of him where he was kind of looking at the camera.  But he has the little “foo-foo” hand thing going on.  From the dad’s perspecitve, I’ll let it slide since he’s only a month old at the time.  Look how tiny the little stinker is!

And then you have the 3 of us, hanging together.  Our boxer Klaya is fabulous with him.  We were initially worried because she is a pretty hyper dog.  But around him she’s very cautious and very protective of him.  As you can see all of us cuddling together.  Just another example of “family time”.

My YouTube Debut

Well, I’ve been fussing with our silly webcam for a week and I finally figured out how to get up and going (I’m a financial expert not a techie).  I am going to start filming short clips referencing posts from my financial blog Good Financial Cents. The final video that you see was actually my 5th recording.  It’s hard to not sound stupid when you are recording yourself (Not quite sure if I accomplished this or not).   Take a listen and let me know.
